Here we are folks, just at the start of the media circus that is the death of Michael Jackson and hasn't it been a thing so far? We're all rocking up to work each day, armed with a fresh set of interesting facts about the King of Pop that we picked up watching the several hundred vignettes, tributes and special reports that have plagued TV screens, blogs and radio shows around the world.
There'll be newly christened Jacko experts standing around in tea rooms everywhere this morning saying things like "oh, he only hated his nose 'cause it reminded him of his dad". Good times...
Then we'll have the other people who stand around in tea rooms moaning and whining that they're "sick to death of hearing about Michael naffing Jackson already". I overheard my first one of those yesterday at the supermarket and I had to smile to myself. Some lady was apparently over it by Sunday afternoon and had declared shenanigans on the whole business. Granted, there's been a bit of Jacko-saturation going on but I gotta ask, what the hell did you expect? If the world's media outlets hadn't jumped all over it, if music channels and radio stations hadn't hastily cobbled together "Michael Jackson's top 10 best video clip countdowns", there would have been an uproar! We would have had people whining and moaning that there wasn't enough being done.
Personally, I've enjoyed flicking around the various tributes and listening to the wicked-awesome songs 'cause, let's face it, the man was a nutjob, but he made some really great music and it's been a privilege checking it all out. It will all die down eventually, it always does. But in the meantime, bear in mind that one of the most influential figures ever to grace the world of popular music is dead, so there will be countdowns, there'll be tributes, montages, best-ofs and documentaries...
There'll be heaps of 'em. Get used to it. And remember, like most things in life, if you don't like it, you don't have to partake... Rent a DVD, play a board game or, heaven forbid, talk to your family. Complaining that you're "sick of hearing about Michael Jackson" is a bit like complaining that you're not happy with the sun rising in the east, it's just the way it is.

There has never been a better pop musician. RIP Michael Jackson.

Just coz it's the way it is, doesn't mean we can't whinge about it. It's ridiculous, by overplaying his music we're only going to get sick of it sooner.

"Billy Jean's not my lover..." Ah, it'll never get old. Pop classics indeed.

I'm with you. I'm not sick of the Michael Jackson specials at all. He was such an interesting guy and his music is nothing short of amazing.
