Wallabies get stoned

Wallabies get stoned

Tasmania's wallabies are enjoying themselves in the apple isle's poppy fields, in Germany what could possibly be the world's shortest marriage, and chilli is the answer to control rioting in India. It's all in a day's work for the Wacky News team.

A group of wallabies snacking in Tasmania's poppy fields are getting stoned out of their minds and hopping around in circles, trampling the crops! You may not know that Tasmania is the world's largest producer of legally grown opium for the pharmaceutical market. But the wallabies are creating what appear to be large crop circles from their antics after eating the poppy plants and getting as high as kites. A manager for one of two Tasmanian companies licensed to take medicinal products from poppy straw said that wildlife and livestock -- including deer and sheep -- that eat the poppies are known to "act weird." Tasmania supplies about 50 percent of the world's raw material for morphine and related opiates.

(BERLIN, GERMANY) A young couple got married at the courthouse in the morning. But later that afternoon, they returned to file divorce papers. The judge who officiated the marriage said (quote) "The honeymoon didn't last very long. As soon as they got home, the couple got into a fight. He took a kitchen knife and tried to cut off her hair. The groom said he never wanted to see her again. The bride said the same thing and wanted an immediate annulment. For a moment, I thought this might have been a temperamental Hollywood couple."

Scientists at India's Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are quoted as saying that spicy chilli can be used to control rioters and in counter-insurgency operations. Defense researchers say the idea is to replace explosives in small hand grenades with a certain variety of red chilli to immobilise people without killing them. The chilli, known as Bhut Jolokia, is said to be 1,000 times hotter than commonly used kitchen chilli. And the powder will also be spread on the fences around army barracks in the hope the strong smell will keep out animals.

And finally...

As if economic times weren't hard enough, with the passing of Michael Jackson, the paparazzi announced they were laying off 74 photographers.

That's all from the Wacky News Desk - have a great weekend!
